Population issues are intertwined with many of the development challenges confronting low- and middle-income countries, particularly in francophone African countries. But often, vital materials are found only in English and are not accessible to francophone policymakers and stakeholders. With support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, PRB is working to provide French speakers in West and Central Africa with additional access to materials that highlight population, reproductive health, and family planning issues. By translating selected existing publications from English into French, the project aims to expand access to relevant material on the on the Population and Poverty Network (PopPov) website (www.poppov.org ).
In addition, this activity intends to increase access to the translated materials through print and electronic channels; and to provide periodic alerts to funding opportunities for research and fellowships, networking opportunities, events, tips on how to communicate research findings, and a variety of research and data analysis tools disseminated and accessible online in French. Planned enhancements to the PRB and PopPov websites will also centralize PRB materials published in French and direct French speakers to other relevant high quality material
reports, data, and other resources
already available in French from other websites.
